What you’ll be responsible for as an Engineering Manager at APG

Technology is at the core of the albelli - Photobox Group and technology powers our commercial and production operations across Europe. That’s why every part of the experience, from our apps to the factory to the front door, is designed to delight. To secure these treasured moments, albelli - Photobox Group is now seeking to appoint a new Engineering Manager working on with our albelli brands.

Looking after a cross functional team of engineers (6-8), spread across Amsterdam and Barcelona in our apps domain, you’ll focus on people growth, engineering culture, processes and delivery.

Even though this is not strictly a hands-on position, you will be expected to be technical enough to review PRs, understand engineering metrics as well as mentoring your team of developers at varying levels of experience.

The impact you’ll make:

  • Overall accountable for the technical health, performance, budget and culture of the app team.
  • Establish mastery, ensure health and overall composition the app team
  • Nurture, grow and develop engineering talent in the team.
  • Lead by example by taking ownership, being proactive and collaborating
  • Work on continuous improvement, keeping it simple and developing the team
  • Foster a great culture that innovates, works together as a squad, partners with other squads and celebrates success
  • Delivery of the wider technology strategic objectives
  • Embed agile ways of working and values within the team
  • Get into the technical detail where required to coach, support and mentor the engineers
  • Drive a culture of ownership and technical excellence
  • Thought partner for Product Managers and Principal Engineers to define, shape and deliver the roadmap
  • Negotiate on the strategic importance of own product roadmap features

Requirements

Minimum experience needed:

  • Demonstrable experience in mobile technology (preferable android and iOS)
  • Demonstrable experience leading and improving technical team/s and growing engineers
  • A track record of improving agile ways of working in your teams
  • Solution oriented and result driven, analytical skills and data-driven mindset
  • An ability to synthesise information and breakdown problems and then prioritise by value
  • Fluent in English.

Even better if you have experience with:

  • BS / MS in Computer Science

We are working in a hybrid environment and this role is based in our Barcelona office, situated in a WeWork by Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, a hub for technology and innovation. Within walking distance of public transport, the beach and shopping centres, the office has great facilities (coffee, tea, showers, bike parking, social events and more) with a modern working atmosphere.

There are approx. 15 people in the office, who work across all areas of the business, with a focus on analytics, marketing, and technology.
