What you’ll be responsible for as a Principal IOS Engineer

The Photobox mobile apps team have recently completed their first steps in creating a brand new experience for our customers. We’re excited to improve on this and continue being the best way to order personalised gifts on mobile.

You will be joining the PBX team and helping us scale our platform to multiple brands across the group. Being involved right from the very beginning of an idea, owning it through discovery, development and testing, releasing it and then supporting it in production.

Our iOS app is written in the latest Swift using MVVM, SwiftUI etc and the team works hard to keep the codebase clean, readable, and updatable.

The impact you’ll make:

  • Leading the iOS team and work across other app engineers and others around the business to ship features, improvements and bug fixes
  • Developing iOS apps using Swift with MVVM and the latest and greatest technologies such as GraphQL, SwiftUI and Combine
  • Create easy-to-read, well architected and well tested code.
  • Influence the engineering OKRs and engineering strategy
  • Work with multiple teams to set standards across the organisaiton.
  • Be a role model for our company culture around coaching, open communication, outcome orientation, diversity and inclusion.
  • Develop and maintain our iOS apps as part of the mobile apps team.
  • Regularly ship apps in an environment where teams are free to shape the direction.
  • Work within a close-knit, cross-functional team, and share your skills in a team that supports and values sharing knowledge

Requirements

Minimum experience needed:

  • Experience leading a team of iOS engineers
  • iOS development
    • Swift
    • Objective-C (We are mostly moved over to Swift but there’s a little bit of Apple’s older language around.)
  • Git and Github
  • Demonstrate good cross-team collaboration skills - successful candidates will need to ensure technical alignment between mobile apps, web, and show an ability to think end-to-end
  • Implantation of software engineering best practises and standards in to teams your managed
  • Data driven - you understand the importance of data, metrics, measuring and improving

Even better if you have experience with:

  • AWS - Serverless/Javascript
  • Android development - Kotlin/Java
  • Firebase
  • Automating the build and release process
  • TDD
  • Scrum / Kanban experience

We are working in a hybrid environment and this role is based in our Barcelona office, situated in a WeWork by Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, a hub for technology and innovation. Within walking distance of public transport, the beach and shopping centres, the office has great facilities (coffee, tea, showers, bike parking, social events and more) with a modern working atmosphere.

There are approx. 15 people in the office, who work across all areas of the business, with a focus on analytics, marketing, and technology.
