The opportunity
As a lead member of the Engineering Team, you will be working with experienced engineers, technicians, and program managers to shape Sunfolding products. Leveraging your industry experience, you will use your creativity and rigorous engineering experience to bring to life solutions that both increase the profitability and lower the ecological impact of solar.
Job Description
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will be a key contributor on the realization of Sunfolding’s Product Roadmap, as well as providing leadership within the Engineering Team. You will participate in each phase of the product development process, including formalizing specifications, early prototype development, system modeling, design validation, design for manufacture, and testing at scale.
This position will report to the COO.Responsibilities
  • Guide Engineering to fulfill the Product Roadmap in partnership with Product Management.
  • Execute engineering programs in partnership with Program Management.
  • Lead, mentor, and educate other members of the Engineering organization.
  • Develop and lead the design of mechanical and structural components.
  • Design components for high volume manufacturing and industry-leading cost reduction in partnership with the DFM/Supply Chain team.
  • Develop and lead FEA on key programs.
  • Implement test plans in conjunction with the Reliability and Test Team.
  • Develop and lead FMEAs on key programs.
Education and Experience
  • 10+ years professional experience in an engineering role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in Computer Aided Design, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Familiarity with Theory of Constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and achieving high volume production with one or more of the following high volume manufacturing processes including: progressive die stamping, injection molding, die casting, blow molding, roll forming, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and desire to organize documents, data, and schedules effectively.
  • Collaborative leadership style
Extra Credit
  • Experience with structural design for solar or wind.
  • Experience collaborating with project management methodologies (Theory of Constraints Critical Chain, Agile, etc).
  • Machine shop experience.
  • Proficiency with G Suite.
  • Passion for the energy transition and the abatement of climate change.
