The Opportunity
-This position requires an advanced understanding of polymeric science.-
As a Polymer Scientist/Engineer, you will be responsible for evolving the scientific understanding behind Sunfolding’s unique polymer-based actuation system. You will collaborate with the Reliability team, Engineering teams, and Product Development team to ensure polymer performance and recommend improvements based on material analysis and data. You will also provide guidance on material testing and standards to the organization.Ideal candidate will demonstrate some or all of the following

  • A high level of organizational skills
  • Written and oral communication skills to convey information to technical and non-technical colleagues and external audiences
  • Understanding of polymer properties, test methods, characterization and metrology
  • Experience with and an understanding of thermoplastics is required
  • A strong theoretical and practical knowledge of thermoplastics and associated characterization techniques
  • Experience with sampling techniques and statistical data analysis for FTIR, DSC, SIMS, TGA, GPC, DMA, Fractography, Chromatography and Microscopy (optical and electron based techniques)
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis
  • Experience with DFMEA and DVPamp;R processes amp; methods
Essential Functions Responsibilities
  • Develop materials analysis amp; testing plan based on polymer applications
  • Conduct inspections, scientific analysis, and testing with acceptance criteria to address the specification and reliability of all polymer based components
  • Lead root cause analysis
  • Present technical conclusions to cross-functional teams
  • Design and perform experiments to support engineering optimization of new designs
  • Work with external test labs and resources required for verification and validation of products
  • Direct the work of testing technicians in daily tasks
Education Experience
  • MS or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience working with industrial polymers
