As part of Penumbra’s legal team,you will support a growing and dynamic companythatdevelopsground-breaking technologyto further its mission ofimproving patient outcomes. You willwork closely with otherattorneys,paralegalsand support staff as part of this closely-knit team whilepartneringwithexternaldepartmentsessential to theCompany’s operations.What You'll Work On
- Select, manage, train and develop staff. Establish objectives and assignments and provide ongoing feedback through performance reviews and development plans.
- Provide pragmatic, business-oriented advice to key department stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Advise on privacy matters related to the Company’s product offerings and day-to-day operations, drawing on your expertise in supporting compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA and other relevant laws and regulations.
- Monitor developing privacy laws, regulations and/or guidance and work with internal stakeholders to develop implementation plans for the Company to adapt to new privacy obligations.
- Collaborate with and train other departments on the Company’s privacy programs, information security policies and procedures, and all related compliance requirements and obligations, including proactively working to improve the privacy aspects of the contract negotiation process.
- Conduct privacy impact and other risk assessments in close coordination with our IT department, as well as monitor risk mitigation measures.
- Draft and update form agreements regarding products and services, and negotiate privacy and security-related changes to customer contracts, including DPAs and BAAs.
- Deeply understand information security and data privacy issues to be able to provide comprehensive advice, anticipate questions and issues, and translate technical and security concerns into answers understandable to non-technical lawyers and other parties in multiple jurisdictions.
What You Bring
- J.D. and membership with the California Bar or at least one other state’s bar and the ability to obtain registered in-house counsel status
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience with substantial privacy experience, including HIPAA
- CIPP/IAPP certification preferred
- Excellent communication skills and strong client management skills
- Ability to process a high volume of work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation experience
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with a can-do attitude
- Proactive, strategic and thoughtful problem-solving ability
- Experience working in the life sciences or another highly regulated industry is preferred
