What does a Director of Teacher Operations do at Busuu?

You’ll work on building and scaling the new teacher operations part of our business, helping to provide best-in-class language tutoring to over 100 million learners around the world. On a day-to-day basis, your responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Working with our Product, Education and People teams to build efficient processes for hiring, onboarding, training and retaining qualified teachers in multiple languages
  • Developing the strategic vision and future capabilities for live tutoring at Busuu.
  • Managing contracts, payments, incentives and other operational aspects relating to our global teacher team
  • Line managing and supporting the professional development of our existing team of teacher operations managers
  • Overseeing our teacher training programme and all aspects of teacher management
  • Working with the Customer Satisfaction team to help build and maintain an excellent end-to-end experience for our students and teachers.

What we’re looking for in a Director of Teacher Operations

Required:

  • Previous experience of scaling an online tutoring faculty as part of a language teaching company
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams involved in language teacher operations and language teacher training
  • Deep understanding of contractual and operational matters relating to the hiring of global freelance teams of tutors
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish
  • You must live within commuting distance of London or Madrid (although the role will be remote at first)
  • Extremely detail-oriented, whilst being able to zoom out and see the big picture
  • Highly confident using Excel/Google sheets to build financial and operational models
  • Strong communication skills: ability to be clear, diplomatic and concise
  • Able to advocate for the rights and needs of tutors while maintaining a strong focus on business and commercial needs

Nice to have:

  • Master’s-level qualification in a relevant subject, including Education, Language Teaching or People Management
  • DELTA or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ language teaching experience in a variety of contexts, including Business
  • Additional languages are a plus
