Who we are
Climate change is causing deep uncertainty at all levels of society, reducing the security of all land-based assets and posing a multi-level security threat for the functioning of enterprises, societies, and governments.
Mitiga employs cutting-edge science and technology to mitigate the risks posed by climate-driven perils. And we need your help.
Who you are
For our growing atmospheric hazard modelling team, we are seeking two seasoned Numerical Weather Prediction Specialists, one with expertise in statistical downscaling and bias correction techniques and one with expertise in atmospheric dynamics related to extreme events.
As an expert in atmospheric dynamics, physical modelling, and/or statistical downscaling, you will play a key role in accelerating our business with an environmental impact.
You're an expert and you have honed your skills through a Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, atmospheric physics and dynamics, or related field, or a master's degree complemented by a long track record of experience. It would be great if you also have experience working with large-scale computing platforms (e.g., cloud or high-performance computers), as well as in the private sector.
For the first position, you're skilled in bias adjustment and statistical downscaling of climate model data, and you've demonstrated your expertise in applying statistical analysis, machine learning, data mining, or related techniques to resolve small-scale features from large-scale coarse resolution analyses, forecasts, or simulations.
For the second position, you are skilled in analyzing atmospheric dynamics relevant to extreme weather events, their predictability on shorter timescale (from early warning systems to seasonal predictions) and assessment in courser resolution climate model simulations.
Additionally, integrating climate simulations and model uncertainties into evaluating the impact of future climate projections on weather and atmospheric hazard extremes is something you excel at. Experience in assessing severe convective storm, extreme precipitation, drought, extreme wind or extreme temperature risks is a plus.
Your love for learning drives you to embrace new and challenging areas. As a team player, you enjoy collaborating and building cool stuff together with your team mates. You appreciate the fast-paced, results-oriented culture of a startup and are prepared to apply academic rigour to products that make a difference in businesses and people's lives.
Requirements
Your impact
Develop downscaling tools and techniques (position 1): you'll contribute to the development of next-generation dynamical and statistical downscaling methodologies to assess the local impact of atmospheric and extreme weather events on the time scale of early-warning systems to climate projections.
Quantification of Atmospheric hazards from dynamics perspective (position 2): You will use your knowledge on atmospheric dynamics to quantify atmospheric hazards related to weather extremes. The outputs will be used both for climate-related hazard quick scans and as a basis for the hazard components of catastrophe models.
Bring innovative NWP applications to life: you'll also study and help us translate climate processes and their influence on regional and local weather patterns and extremes across different time scales. You'll help us verify and validate model outputs against observational data and collaborate with data scientists to incorporate machine learning and artificial intelligence methods into extreme weather hazard modelling.
Foster partnerships and stay updated with cutting-edge research: You'll be involved in high-profile partnerships that disrupt traditional approaches in insurance, finance, asset management and humanitarian industries. You'll stay abreast of the latest techniques and advancements in peer-reviewed journal articles to enhance our climate and extreme weather modelling capabilities.
